Which is Better NEET or AIIMS?
It has been an ongoing debate amongst the students, teachers and other stakeholders of the educational system of India as to which exam is better amongst NEET and AIIMS? NEET being conducted primarily in 2018, is a recent development, whereas the AIIMS is an age old entrance exam. But the importance of both the exams does not decrease by any ounce. So here is a comparative study of both the medical entrance exams.
Number of Options : In NEET, there are many colleges to choose from once you get a commendable rank. Whereas in AIIMS, there are only a limited number of choices.
Success Rate : The success rate for the AIIMS is 0.35% only. Whereas for the NEET, only the top 15% will get the desired seat in the top colleges.
Autonomy of Colleges and Syllabus : In AIIMS, the colleges are autonomous, as there is no part-taking by the Medical Council of India in the admission process. For NEET, the syllabus pertains to the CBSE pattern, and it is conducted by the NTA.
Courses Offered : AIIMS is for MBBS only, whereas NEET provides for both the MBBS and BDS courses.
Exam Pattern :
NEET exam is divided into 4 sections with 45 questions each. The subjects from where the questions are asked are : Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Zoology. For every correct answer, the candidate would be given 4 marks whereas for every wrong answer, there will be a deduction of 1 mark.
In AIIMS, there are a total of 200 questions where 60 questions each are asked from Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The General Knowledge or the Aptitude part comprises of 20 questions. For every correct answer 1 mark will be given whereas for every wrong answer 1\3 marks will be deducted.
Duration of the Exam : The AIIMS exam is of 3:30 hours whereas the NEET is of 3 hours.
Difficulty Level of the Exam : Since the number of aspirants in AIIMS and NEET is comparatively the same , but the intake of the students in AIIMS is less, there is a common notion that the AIIMS exam is more difficult. Both the exams require conceptual clarity as well as time management during the exam.
