NEET Physics Syllabus: An Overview

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is a national level entrance examination which is conducted for medical aspirants to seek admission to medical institutes approved by the Medical Council of India. From this year, NEET will be conducted by the National Testing Agency. The syllabus of NEET comprises all the important topics related to the particular subject. NEET Physics Syllabus

The Syllabus of NEET Physics comprises topics from Class 11 and 12 Physics NCERT books. There are a total of 45 questions with a total of 180 marks. So, you cannot ignore this section. The detailed of syllabus Physics that you need to study while preparing for NEET 2019 is given below:

Contents from Class 11 Syllabus

Unit 1: Physical World and Measurement
  • Physics: Its scope and excitement, nature of physical laws etc.
  • Need for Measurement – Units of measurement, system of units (SI units, fundamental and derived units). Measurement of length, mass and time, Accuracy and Precision, errors and significant figures.
  • Dimensions of physical quantities, dimensional analysis and its applications.
Unit 2: Kinematics
  • Frame of reference, Motion in a straight line, position time graph, speed and velocity. Uniform and non-uniform motion, average speed and instantaneous velocity.
  • Basic concepts of differentiation and integration to describe motion. Scalar and vector quantities, properties of vectors, relative velocity.
  • Unit vectors and resolution of vectors.
  • Scalar and Vector product of vectors. Motion in a plane.
Unit 3: Laws of Motion
  • Concept of Force. Inertia, Newton’s laws of motion, law of conservation of momentum and its applications.
  • Equilibrium of concurrent forces, static and kinetic friction, laws of friction, rolling friction, lubrication.
  • Dynamics of uniform circular motion, centripetal force etc.

Unit 4: Work, Energy and Power
  • Work done by a constant force and variable force, kinetic energy, work-energy theorem, power etc.
  • Potential energy, conservative forces, conservation of mechanical energy etc.
Unit 5: Motion of System of Particles and Rigid body
  • Centre of mass of a two-particle system, conservation of momentum, COM of a rigid body
  • Torque, angular momentum and its conservation with examples
  • Equilibrium of rigid bodies, equation of rotational motion and many more.
Unit 6: Gravitation
  • Kepler’s laws, universal law of gravitation, acceleration due to gravity and its variation with depth and altitude.
  • Gravitational potential energy and potential. Escape velocity, orbital velocity of a satellite. Geo-stationary satellites.
Unit 7: Properties of Bulk Matter
  • Elastic behavior, stress-strain relationship, hooke’s law, Young’s modulus, bulk modulus, sheer modulus, modulus of rigidity, poisson’s ratio, elastic energy.
  • Viscosity, Stoke’s law, terminal velocity, Reynold’s number etc.
  • Surface Energy and surface tension, angle of contact, application of surface tension.
  • Heat, temperature, thermal expansion, anomalous expansion, specific heat capacity, latent heat
  • Heat transfer, black body radiation, Wein’s displacement law and green house effect.
  • Newton’s law of cooling and Stefan’s law.
Unit 8: Thermodynamics
  • Thermal equilibrium, zeroth law of thermodynamics, heat, work and internal energy. Isothermal and adiabatic processes.
  • Second law of thermodynamics, heath engines and refrigerators.
Unit 9: Behavior of perfect gas and kinetic theory
  • Equation of state of a perfect gas, work done in compressing a gas.
  • Kinetic theory of gases
Unit 10: Oscillations and Waves
  • Periodic motion, Simple harmonic motion (SHM) and its equation, phase, oscillation of a spring restoring force, energy in SHM, simple pendulum etc.
  • Wave motion. Longitudinal and transverse waves, superposition of waves, reflection of waves, doppler’s effect etc.

Unit 1: Electrostatics
  • Electric charges and their conservation, Coulomb’s law, superposition principle
  • Electric field, electric field lines, dipole etc.
  • Electric flux, Gauss’s theorem and its applications
  • Electric potential, potential difference, electric potential and its applications, equipotential surfaces etc.
Unit 2: Current Electricity
  • Electric Current, drift velocity, Ohm’s law, resistivity and conductivity
  • Carbon resistors, series and parallel combination of resisters
  • Internal resistance of a cell, Kirchoff’s laws and its applications, Potentiometer etc.
Unit 3: Magnetic effects of current and Magnetism
  • Concept of magnetic field, Oersted’s experiment and Biot-Savart law and its application.
  • Ampere’s law and its applications, current loop as a magnetic dipole, solenoid, Para, ferro and diamagnetic substances
  • Electromagnets.
Unit 4: EMI and Alternating Currents
  • EMI, Faraday’s laws, Induced emf and current, Lenz’s law and eddy currents.
  • Alternating currents, peak and rms value of alternating current/ voltage, reactance and impedance, LC oscillations, AC generator and transformer
Unit 5: Electromagnetic Waves
  • Electromagnetic waves and their characteristics. Transverse nature of em waves.
  • Electromagnetic spectrum etc.
Unit 6: Optics
  • Reflection of light, spherical mirrors, mirror formula, lens formula, refraction of light, total internal reflection, Scattering of light, Optical instruments, Microscopes and telescopes, Wave optics, Proof of laws of reflection and refraction using Huygen’s principles.
  • Interference, Diffraction, resolving power of microscopes and astronomical telescopes, polarization and Brewster’s law
Unit 7: Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation
  • Photoelectric effect, Hertz’s and Lenard’s observations, photoelectric effect
  • Matter waves, wave nature of particles
Unit 8: Atoms and Nuclei

Alpha particle scattering experiments, models of atoms, radioactivity, mass energy relation etc.

Unit 9: Electronic Devices

Semiconductors, Diodes, rectifier, transistors, oscillator, logic gates etc.
